Cottage Castle
So I have been a little obsessed with a country cottage look combined with an extravagant castle look. I love handmade items and it seems as though these days you have to either hand make it, buy it from someone like me, or vintage shop(one of my favorite things in the world to do). Since I have been making furniture there is not one piece that I can see myself buying in the future, unless it is an antique of course. I want to make everything and make it exactly the way I want, no settling anymore. When I made this farmhouse table it really hit home that I can do everything I thought I could. I am about 115lbs, I guess you can say I have mommy muscles (obvi having two little mamas boys that’ll do something). I made this table by myself without help from one person. Start to finish. Hand picked each piece of wood, I still shock the people who work at the lumber yard I get my wood. I am super picky. I want distressed, knotty, different looking wood. I lovecharacter in each job…… Mostly because I love the exclusiveness of my work. Cut, sanded, built, sanded, painted, stained, brushed, distressed, painted, sanded. DONE! I used techniques that I haven’t used on any other pieces thus far.
My client was a HUGE fan of reclaimed wood, but reclaimed wood has a much bigger price tag especially when you’re purchasing from the most amazing place I’ve ever been, The Antique Lumber Yard in Temecula, Ca. So I came home and did some experimenting, that was awesome! In the photo below you can see the gray reclaimed wood on the bottom and my replica on the top.
The table turned out exactly the way I envisioned it. We did a Dark Espresso finish for the table top to really tie in the elegance of this table.
Introducing Me, Myself, & I
I have finally taken the time to get things going on this blog. This is going to be great, instead of talking everyone’s ears off about my business & plans and news I can just let it all out on here. To people who have the option of knowing or not. Not to say my loved ones aren’t completely & fully supportive but I’ll admit I can be a little over bearing.
I had a shoot this week for my website (I plan to have a couple more before the launch). Hopefully in the next couple weeks that will be up and running. I lack the ability to balance. I’m always 150% this 150% that.
Since I have decided Salvaged Soul is my future, my heart, & my mind I have devoted all my brain activity outside of being a fiancé to my love & mother to my children to buying, cutting, building, and selling!
So here’s where I am right now. I have been busier than I ever even imagined being during the first few months of a new business & I am grateful beyond belief. However, this only means more work ahead. eeeeeeeeekkkkkk & I’m ready for it. I feel accomplished & whole heartedly happy with all of my work. I have made many people pieces that will be in their families for lifetimes, that alone makes my day.
I am a sucker for family. Anything that comes from a family member never gets tossed. I would love to be able to have pieces of furniture from the 1920′s that a family member from Finland (that’s where my dad’s family is from) passed on. Only because I picture Finland to be very much my style today. I do have a quilt that is from the 60′s hand made by my great grandmother that I sleep with every night. And I was recently given antlers that are from the 40′s, a white tail deer shot by my great uncle in Minnesota.
I’ll continue to keep everyone posted. Hopefully my perfect logo will be done tonight and I can share tomorrow.
